Steven Chelliah, the New York City based singer-songwriter, composer and guitarist, is breathing fresh new life into the New York music scene with his unique brand of soulful alternative rock colored by subtle overtones of his rich Indian musical heritage.
Steven, originally from Malaysia, earned multiple accolades for his groundbreaking compositional theories as a dual major in Jazz Composition & Arranging and Contemporary Writing & Production at the esteemed Berklee College of Music. Now he is infusing that same innovative spirit as a songsmith to challenge the tired chiched song models prevalent throughout Top 40 radio while still holding true to the timeless qualities that keep artists like Steven Wonder, Chicago and Michael Jackson relevant today.
Supremacy-X is the debut album from the rising music star.
The guitar-driven album weaves in and out of alternative rock landscapes with thick r&b grooves, luscious vocal harmonies and infectious melodies showcasing Steven's technical prowess and pop sensibility. Supremacy-X speaks to the human condition touching on love, loneliness, despair and the rage resulting from inequality of race, religion and social class.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2015 aptly marks the release of the music video, produced by Kudegraphy, for the album's lead single "Burn it Down."
The video and the song depict the outrage stemming from the racial injustice and religious intolerance that plague our world. Historical footage of the human struggle and clips of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. are intermingled throughout the captivating music video working with the music to inspire change and the passion to rise above.
The full album Supremacy-X will be released on iTunes on
Tuesday, January 27, 2015.
