FASHION MODEL OF THE MONTH
NEW YORK CITY
SEPTEMBER 2018
Since I was 5, I dreamt about becoming a model. But real opportunities opened up when I moved to America from Ukraine in 2014 at the age of 21. Back then I lived in Tampa, Fl where I met my first photographer Chalo Garcia, who created my first portfolio and invited me to local beauty contest, which I won. I received 1000$ cash prize, trophies and publications in newspapers. I was working hard on getting in great shape and building my portfolio, networking.
After multiple castings and submissions I was booked for HSN tv channel for live demos for multiple brands. The one I’m most proud of was Jay Manuel beauty brand. Because I got to know super model Iman and Jay Manuel (America’s next Top model make up artist). I became his main makeup model, which was pretty awesome.
I also won runner up at International Bikini Model Search, TAMPA 2015. I was invited to move to NYC and try myself out in real fashion world. I was signed up with EMG, but I was able to get more bookings on my own. Modelling gave me an opportunity to travel around the US and do creative work I could only dream about. There’s a lot of frustration involved due to huge competition. You learn how to be fine with rejections and you learn how to hustle in order to make a living.
For 4 years in modelling career I tried pretty much everything. I walked runway for Drexel University, NY Bridal Fashion Week, Philly Fashion Week and many others. I do fit modeling and work closely with designers on creating perfect outfits for people. I do commercial and portfolio photoshoots for multiple companies.
Lately I started managing photo projects and events by booking models, photographers and organizing a whole process. Also I’m selling my images and getting paid for interviews. I’m glad that models standards expanded lately and now more people can become models if they have a courage and passion for it. It’s important to know that beauty standards change every decade and it’s okay to look different. At this era women are so concerned about looking perfect, that they forget how to be happy and content with themselves.
I’d say this industry is very exciting and interesting, but it takes a lot to get in and be able make a living of it. My advice to aspiring models: confidence and persistence is a key to success in modeling. You got to have something unique and different about yourself, your style and personality in order to get bookings. Keep trying and don’t give up, be objective and ask an agent if you can model.
Also invest money in good images and learn how to walk and pose from professionals. Be aware of massive scam out there and always double check people you deal with through Social Media, website, phone calls.

Take care and good luck!
