Rosina~Mae Fashion Show - Chicago
Fashion Forward: Rosina Mae’s Second Annual Show
By: Katerina Bizios
It was a night of glitz, glam and not to mention glitter, as Chicago fashion designer Rosina-Mae Turner premiered her spring collection for the crowd at Debonair Social Club on Saturday night. The hipster bar transformed, replacing its usual dancefloor area with a glitter coated runway where models showed-off 24 original Rosina-Mae looks. The DJ kept the crowd entertained as the venue filled and crowd anticipation grew until the first look came down the runway. Turner’s line showed us that fabulous fashion can be found not only on the streets of New York City, but right here in Chicago’s Wicker Park.
Known best for her swimwear and cover-ups, Turner gave the crowd a bit of everything with bikinis and mini-dresses accented with zippers, mesh and more. A hands-on designer, Rosina-Mae was involved in the designing, production and even mixing the music for the show, which opened with her newly recorded song, “Runway Ready.”
“She’s always innovative and pays attention to the details. Everything she does is so original and you’re going to make a statement with anything you wear from her collections,” said one of the models after the show. “This was an amazing event to be a part of.”
Neon and metallic colors were incorporated in every model’s look. The cameras flashed as photographers hovered around the runway, reflecting the body glitter that traced along the chests and backs of the models. Don’t forget the sky-high stilettos, winged-tip eyeliner, funky eye-shadows and brightly-colored feather hair accessories that came down the runway. Elevating the stage, the models climbed three steps to strut their stuff down the bar, giving a 360-degree-view to the audience.
“I don’t want to be designing for the masses. I don’t want to see my clothes on every woman walking down the street. I like to create unique pieces and that’s the future I see for my line,” said Rosina-Mae, who was pleased with the results of the evening.
Keep an eye on this young designer as she continues to bring eye-popping, contemporary looks to Chicago.
Rosina-Mae pieces can be purchased at Galleria 1712 located at 1712 W. North Ave in Chicago or visit her website rosinamae.com.
