Fashion Model of the Month
My name is Denise Priolo. I am 19 years old, I was born and raised in Staten Island, New York. I graduated from Susan E. Wagner high school and now attend John Jay College of Criminal Justice. I am a Law and Society major and I aspire to one day be a successful lawyer. I grew up in a family of 6 being the only girl with three brothers. I have played basketball since I was two years old and am proud to say that I was able to score my 1,000 points in high school, for which I received an athletic distinction. This was a huge accomplishment for me as I had worked really hard to achieve it. Aside from the love I have for basketball I always dreamed of being a top model. I wanted to show everyone that hard work can pay off just like it did for basketball. For these reasons, I am a firm believer in the saying that you can do anything you put your mind to.
I started modeling about 3 years ago and from the start I knew this is what I wanted to do. I’ve walked in three NYFW shows and have modeled for a vast array of different photo shoots. Being a model gave me so much more confidence than I previously had, and made me grow as a person. Modeling has awarded me the chance to learn about so many different designers, photographers and shows. My excitement continues to grow with each modeling opportunity that I am given. I have not signed with anyone therefore I am currently freelancing but I'm always open to any new opportunities. From the start of this pandemic it definitely made things harder for everyone. There were no more shows, photo shoots or events for months. This was very hard to cope with everyday. I made sure I kept myself motivated going for runs, doing yoga and now my school work. Most of all, I kept focused. Once I got asked to walk NYFW this year from Hitechmoda I was beyond excited. I was a little nervous as this was my first event that I was taking part in since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Everything was very different with the mask, gloves, shields as well as all of the protocols having to be taken. Although a challenging time for many, during this pandemic I was able to accomplish one of my biggest goals: being on the Billboards in NYC Times Square.
Being able to accomplish my goal motivated me that no matter what is going on in your life if you want something and work hard enough you can have it. This is only the beginning of my journey and I am going to keep working until I reach my goals. A quote that I live by (I read it before every big event I have in my life and during hard times) is “Remember that everyday ends and brings a new tomorrow full of exciting new things, love what you do, do the best you can and always remember how much you are loved” -unknown. Don't stop until you are where you want to be!
