MYKITCO
Mykitco has built, in a short space of time, a cult and savvy brand.
Sitting at the premium end of the makeup brush market in terms of quality (affordable pricing but premium quality), they have set a new bench mark in British make up brushes that has far reached the UK market taking them global thanks to the clever use of social media, the partnership of the founders and of course the quality of the product.
Split into two distinct categories: classic with the warm grey handle and pro with the powder blue, with the cute little logo, are expert level brushes for pro, prosumer and consumer market.
The reasons this brand is such a stand out is simple: Quality.
Let’s break this down a little: Mykitco. is a pro based brand started and fronted by the talented and approachable James Molloy, who fronts all the video tutorials and is in himself an expert in his field. However we also need to acknowledge the team. So many companies neglect to put themselves on the frontline and rely on social media and you never really get a feel for who’s behind the curtain so to speak, and yet the Facebook page is collectively run and responded to by senior members of staff including the founders themselves which is a refreshing way to handle business.
Yes, they do have a strong social media presence in the market but that does not dictate the quality of the end product which can be seen through the end users such as me and the amazing Val Garland who has praised the company for their brushes and kit essentials.
Looking through the website is an artist dream. For the OCD amongst us who are particular about the way we store our kit they have brought clever and innovative tricks the table based on James’s own needs on a shoot. Prime example of this is the kit bags; each one is designed to support your artistic needs from storing your brushes too carrying your kit.
Another stand out is their beauty training. Rather than follow trends and focus on the latest gimmicks they are giving classes that are designed to better you as an artist. Macro beauty is something that until now I had given no thought to, even though I have done macro shoots, who else but an industry insider would put that on the table? Teaching us how to work with close up detailed images and really push our artistry level.
All pro talk aside though, everyone is talking about the fun elements of the brand. Who can forget their design a badge competition? An innovative and fun way to integrate and involve people in the development of the brand. The packaging and simple things like a note, the bags they put the brushes in (a total must keep the quality is excellent) along with that little pin badge which becomes a sort of medal, showing that you too have a piece of the action and its sort of a public secret, pinned to a coat or a bag it’s like a signal that you too are a fan and gives a little nod to your insider knowledge.
Mykitco, is a cult favourite with artist for the quality and consumers for the luxury of the items. With an ever expanding and developing line the future is bright for the Mykitco team.
