MIA MyLove - NYC

My name is Mia MyLove
I'm 15 years old and I am an aspiring model. I also enjoy acting, singing and dancing. For me modeling is not just about being beautiful, or posing in designer clothes and wearing a smile, but being able to mak other girls see "themselves" in me and smile a little brighter knowing that they are beautiful.
I am African American and Puerto Rican, I love both my heritages and I embrace the fire, strength and beauty in both. My dad is African American and my mom is Puerto Rican. I have beautiful curly hair and y complexion is the color of caramel! While much younger I remember looking through my mother's magazines and asking her "Mom why don't any of the girls and women look like me?"
She would find one who did and one wasn't enough for me. Growing up, I had insecurities that started with me viewing pages and the covers of magazines, while in Elementary School and High School these feeling grew stronger because I was surrounded by girls who had straight hair, were pretty, popular and mean and in turn spent their time bullying me about everything from my teeth, weight and hair.
Though this is the norm for many boys and girls all over he world, I had tough skin and I wasn't going to let it get the best of me. I grew up with a strict and controlling step dad that wouldn't let my mother straighten my hair but one day she did anyway and I felt like the most beautiful girl around when she was done. My confidence was high until it was time to wash my hair then my confidence went out the window and in my head I was back to being ugly and different. My step-father was no help in the situation, shutting me out and ultimately disowning me and my mother. That was a tough time in my life and it made me and my mom's bond that much stronger.
During that time I also learned the importance of self love and how wonderful it is to know that we are all unique in our own way and there is nothing wrong with that. When I turned 13 I had the pleasure of being introduced to my biological father and over time we embraced each other and have moved forward with a loving father daughter relationship.
I've found that my story unfortunately is not uncommon among my peers and some adults. Knowing this, I wish to share my story and let young girls and older girls know that they are not alone and through modeling my platform will show girls around the world the importance of self love and following their dreams no matter their circumstance.
One thing for sure, we are catepillars waiting to become the beautiful butterflies we are all meant to be. Thank you for reading my story and I hope you will join me in my journey of becoming a professional model.
Thank you for opening doors for girls like me.
Sincerely,
AbountifuBeautifuButterly Mia
