About Leonora Asomanin
My name is Leonora Asomanin, I am a British designer based in Brentwood specialising in digital textile design. I have adored fashion from a young age but it was not till my early teens that I decided to pursue a career as a fashion and textiles designer. Having a love for fashion, I studied a Foundation in Art at London College of Fashion which further developed my design style.
My love for art started at the age of 4 where I used to sit in the garden and draw for hours. My visit to Aburi Gardens in Ghana as a child further sparked my fascination for nature. Nature is the most significant aspect that has inspired my vibrant and stylish collections.
I take joy from impacting my knowledge onto others as a mentor and been quiet person I portray what I need to say through my fashion collections. I always complete work to its highest standards and I am passionate about designing.
I am inspired by my maternal grandparent’s story. My grandfather was a tailor and grandmother was a market trader. Having seen my grandmother working in a market as well as a group project at university gave me the motivation to start my own market stall at Camden Lock Market in summer 2013. My grandfather career as a tailor inspired me to start sewing at the age of fourteen. Needless to say, I feel my ability to design and make derives from my creative family.
I admire the designers Phyllis Taylor, Zuhair Murad and Mary Katrantzou. I have seen their fashion labels flourish over the years. Their stories have influenced me to chase my dream of establishing my own fashion business.
I am skilled in various practices that pertain to the fashion industry such as Screen Printing, Surface Textiles, Garment Making, Pattern Cutting, Fashion Design and my designs are distinctive and original.
On the 13th September 2014 I was invited to take part in The Emerging Trends Show during London Fashion Week. As a fashion designer I was full of joy to exhibit straight after university on such a big platform. I am grateful for all of the opportunity I have experienced so far and hope my career goes from strength to strength.

Leonora’s Advice to Emerging Designers
One element of making it in the creative industry is having a strong portfolio. My experience since graduating from university, has given me an insight into how important it is to get involved in events to further my brand and I advise other emerging designers to do the same. I have taken part in many events such as business fairs, fashion shows, business networking events, competitions and exhibitions all of which has been beneficial for Là Mo Designs. I also recommend that designers should take part in competitions to gain exposure in the fashion industry.
As a fashion designer I see the importance of using social media to bridge the gap between the designer and the customer as well as the fashion industry. Promotional material such as business cards, flyers and a banner will help to present a brand to its highest stranded for clients and buys. Promoting your business is essential, so I advice to contact magazines for media exposure and also display your collections at exhibition spaces/ trades shows.
I recommend a mentor to coach and advice on your business start-up. Attend as many short courses for business and fashion to gain business knowledge and insight into garment contraction even if a manufacture is producing your collections. Develop relationships in the creative industry e.g. photographers, graphic designers, MUA, stylists as you may need each other as your business advances.
Above all support from family and friends will help while establishing your business. The best suggestion I could give to emerging designers, is to have good time management and organisational skills which is key to a successful business. I urge anyone hoping to work in the fashion industry to be innovative and determined. To choose fashion as a career you must put 100% effort in to all that you do.
