LIBRA LALENA
JANUARY 2018
FASHION MODEL OF THE MONTH
NYFW, LAFW Week Miami swim week model LiBra Lalena, who is born a Virgo but likes to Pride herself in her spirituality, her culture and being a true New Yorker. "Sometimes I curse in my prayers but God still answers it"
LiBra was not born a supermodel to herself. But many saw the spark in her. She rejected a lot of offers growing up. Yet she spent her late teens early twenties devoted to a Bible Fellowship program in NJ instead of pushing her dreams in the big city. She thought the industry was not for her.
Clearly God had other plans when introducing her to a photographer that she introduced to her Fellowship, and he introduced her to a fashion model life by making her his muse. He helped her see that her exotic looks and her petite frame are fashion model worthy. She started her modeling career with Wilhelmina who never allowed her to do runway due to her 5-8 height. While with Wilhelmina she also worked for several fashion and urban magazines and has 3 published cover stories in magazine such as Wedding dresses, Trace and Y R B. With Wilhelmina she did print work and she joined a dance company where she devoted all her time hoping to have a long-term career as a dancer. Hence her amazing dancer body.
Unfortunately a foot injury that resulted in a surgery where as she says she has a 'screw in her foot and a thorn in her heart' ended her dance dreams. She then started focusing on her acting, interning at Repertory Theatre Company and being introduced to theatre acting. Limited by her ankle, knee braces and constant Orthotics. Miraculously she met a Runway coordinator in her neighborhood who invited her to model in a show locally. She explained her foot issue and was invited to do runway walking training with professional New York models. She hesitantly did her first runway show, thinking it was a fluke. Then, a second and third and soon enough she realized she was able to at least walk a runway in high heels despite doctor saying she would forever be limited to Orthotics.
Her Runway life became legit after her 2014 introduction to Couture Fashion Week.
Since then she has done La Fashion Week, Miami swim week and also flew to Puerto Rico,
her family Homeland, to model in Ponce for South Fashion Week. She has since become a favorite face during Fashion Week.
But despite her unique name and exotic looks, she still remains reserved and humbled.
She thanks God for the opportunity of her being a runway model. "It could end any day now, so I treasure every moment".
She adores her designers, photographers, makeup artist and fashion show producers so it's hard to think of retiring from Fashion Week life. Who knows what the future holds. But meanwhile we look forward to seeing RunwayLiBra during NYFW and beyond.
