"FOR THE LOVE OF PROM"
DeJhanie Brown
Frederick Douglass Academy Alumni
For the Love of the Prom program was held at Frederick Douglas Academy.
A passion for charity and giving back to my community, I feel a lot of young women in this upcoming generation do not have proper guidance or enough programs to help them properly transition into womanhood.
I want to create opportunities for me to reach out to these young women and possibly make a change in these young women lives.
Prom can be very expensive.
The prom program is dedicated to helping these young women prepare for prom and cut the cost of prom essentials.
The program consists of a group of workshops on topics such as learning your body type and the appropriate dress for that type, hair care and hair maintenance, makeup tips, and a session on life after high school.
On the last day of the program, I took the young ladies to a prom event in Brooklyn held by Princess Chambers, where they were granted the opportunity to receive free dresses, shoes, makeup and accessories.
Due to a sponsorship with Pink Shisha (nail salon and beauty bar in the Bronx) and Je'Taime Shoes (Garden State Mall) the girls also received discounts on hair, nail, and makeup services, and on shoes.
This was the first year of the program.
Next year, I will be bringing it back to Frederick Douglass Academy hope to expand and take it to more high schools.
Any high school that wishes to bring this program to their school can feel free to send me an email.
Thank you
