Diversity Fashion Week Sneak Peek Edition Winter Wonder Land inspired by the movie
“Alice through the looking glass”.
Despite the current pandemic we in we felt the need to still pull through with this edition this year.
All the designers have worked hard on new collections and had the chance to showcase their
beautiful work via our platform to still be seen and recognized. All the models have put in great
effort and slayed the catwalk once again. With the smallest possible team, the most inclusive
fashion party in the Netherlands was recorded at EFE Venue in Amsterdam.
This edition was inspired by the movie Alice through the looking glass and was a sneak
peek of our Winter Wonder Land edition for next year. 15 designers national and
international have showcased their designs during the show.
Some designs were specially made for our theme. One of the designers Stephastique
states “Alice is the ultimate muse. She is not afraid to look at her reflection in the mirror
and be herself. She struggles for the one she loves. That is why the collection is inspired
by the movie "Alice Through the Looking Glass". The collection is characterized by
expressive prints, colors, manipulation of fabrics and recycling. The combination of
colors and special materials resulted in expressive outfits that could have been worn by
the eccentric characters from the film. The collection is about being able to look at
yourself in the mirror and be proud of who you see. But it is also intended to hold up a
mirror to the viewer about the consumer society in which we live in”.
In addition designer Steven Blanco known for his hand-painted artworks on clothing to
produce unique and timeless items with emotional depth has made a timeless collection
based on “Alice through the looking glass”movie.
We are happy to still pull this off and are excited to show you the results. Diversity and inclusion
matters and we are happy that the designers took part in our extraordinary show and worked with
our diversity models!
No matter your size, skincolor, religion or if you have a disability. You are beautiful ❤️. .
Our mission is to show the world that beauty is not set in one standard but radiates through
embracing our different features.

XIMENA
Sometimes we grow up different, without an incling of knowing how.
As a kid you don't want to be seen as abnormal, you don't want to be bullied for being or looking dissimilar to your peers. For the longest time I never knew my appearance was any different from my friends, family, the people walking on the streets. I knew to a certain extend that I looked unique, but my child mind just presumed it was normal. When I turned 16 I finally discovered what it was: I have something called waardenburg syndrome type 4.
A genetic mutation being apparant in my wider set eyes, natural grey hair and many more little facial features. In addition I have Hirsprung disease, which affects my bowels. This disease is directly connected to type 4 of the waardenburg syndrome. As a hormonal teenager who just wanted to fit in,
I all of a sudden had to come to terms with actually being different, considering 1 in 42.000 people have waardenburg. It took me years to accept, it took me years to comprehend, it took me years to find that love within me. Why couldn't I accept my own uniqueness If that is what I found most beautiful in others. Why couldn't I see how my appearance comes across to others who have the same love for uniqueness. Why couldn't I see that the thing that made me different makes me beautiful. The confidence started growing when the bullying stopped and I actually started to get praised for my uniqueness.
When I started modelling and found my path crossing with DMA, diversity modelling agency, I finally realised that I myself was one of those people I should love for their unique feautures. Nowadays I wear it as a badge of honor, I work in the modelling industry to showcase to everyone who ever felt alone, dissimilar, or weird that that is exactly what makes them beautiful and special.
I have been fortunate enough to meet people with the same syndrome, in real life and on social media. Through my modelling I had the opportunity to talk and meet people who went through similar experiences or are still going through them. Having talked to parents who have young children with the syndrome, asking questions because they want to be able to help their children later in life is a fulfilling and grateful feeling. I want to show them that they shouldn't hide parts of themselves, they shouldn't hide what makes them them in order to fit in.
Stand out, be you and show the world your unique beauty. The modelling industry provides me the opportunity to open up these conversations, to showcase unique forms of beauty, and provide a voice for those with the same syndrome.
