KSENIA OCHEREDKO
NEW YORK CITY
AUGUST 2017
FASHION MODEL OF THE MONTH
Tell us about your career as model. How did you get started?
I started modeling in my hometown in Russia. I think the moment I really "got noticed" was when I passed the casting for local television reality show about models - and appeared on the TV in several episodes. My first international modeling trip was to China, as it was the closest market to geographic area I was based at that time.
Tell us about the type of modeling you mostly doing: runway, commercial, editorial, etc., and what type of modeling do you enjoy most?
I am doing a lot of print, I have always loved being in front of the camera whether in the studio or on location. Lately I've started commercial acting and fell in love with this field, too. Moving image work is more complex, as it is more exciting. One of my last works was for a fragrance commercial (Playboy "Queen of the Game" by Coty Inc) where I got to play "bad girl" aiming to steal another girl's boyfriend. It was challenging and so much fun.
You’ve shot for many magazines, walked NY Fashion Week, appeared in commercials. What do you consider to be your career highlights, and what are you most proud of?
New York Fashion Week is always a great event, all the fashion world is now gazing and you are a part of it! Runway, lights, it just feels incredible. Also it is very flattering that you get to see the collection first!
What do you love most about being a model? And what do you least enjoy?
I enjoy my work greatly and probably the most appealing part is when you finally see the results of your work - new campaign started or editorial came out. It brings sensation of belonging to a greater world of art, contributing to fashion. Of course I also love working with exciting outfits and enthusiastic fashion people!!! Traveling is great and I love visiting different cities - but at some point it can become a disadvantage as you don't always have your family and friends by your side.
Last time we spoke you have shifted your career in the main from Europe to the United States. How was local market treating you so far?
It is going very well - I am mainly based in New York and the market is very creative and diverse. I shoot a lot and very busy. I really enjoyed my Commando clothing campaign from last year, it had that soft likable energy that I think expresses my own personality. On the contrast I've got to shoot many magazine editorials - some were edgy, some were beauty, so I am really working in the variety of directions!
I am happy I earned my regular clients, companies who like working with me on ongoing basis.
What's the best lesson you've learned from working in the fashion industry?
Work hard and believe in yourself! I am sure that is the cornerstone to success in the industry.
