ALFIE PETTIT
ARIAL TRAMPWAY
If you’ve ever been to the city of Palm Springs, chances are you’ve heard of Alfie Pettit. From his dazzling cars (a big pink Hummer and pink chrome Cadillac, dubbed “The Trampmobile” and “Pink Lightning”) to the billboard displaying his drag queen alter ego Arial Trampway as soon as you exit the freeway, this campy glam drag queen has a way of making his presence known. A promotional powerhouse, Pettit has found his way around the entertainment business. Before Arial, he was age 21 and establishing what would become one of the top autograph businesses in not only his home in
Los Angeles but in the world.
In 2006, Pettit moved to Palm Springs and by 2016 he had a star on Palm Springs’ Walk of Fame.
From co-owning and show opening for Carnival Cabaret at Oscars Grill and Bar to being the head of his own show, DRG BRNCH Sundays @ The Hard Rock Hotel, many have flocked to wherever Arial is to see her shine. Alfie has used Arial as an opportunity to give back to his community. Through his show at the Hard Rock, he raised money for local organisations such as Desert Aids Project,
Desi Strong Foundation, and Animal Samaritans. Arial’s most recent appearance was at the forefront of an awards show in Palm Desert, the ADDY Awards. Since the end of DRG BRNCH in October of 2017, however, Pettit has kept a low profile on his next move in the drag scene. While you can still find him all over town, attending other drag shows and local events, everyone remains asking where they can find Arial.
The one place that you can always find her on Thursday nights is at home, watching RuPaul’s Drag Race: a reality TV drag competition where contestants compete for a cash prize of up to $100,000. He’s been following the show for years, most recently becoming enamoured with All Stars 3. He proudly displays video clips of himself and RuPaul on social media, dating back to 1993 at RuPaul's first ever television performance. There you can see Alfie in the front row, dressed in drag and having the time of his life. When casting calls were announced for this year, he felt that it was time to re-cross their paths. It was time to throw his wig in the ring and audition for RuPaul’s Drag Race.
While the audition materials and process are confidential, here’s what he can tell you: the filming process for this audition tape was no small feat. Wanting to give nothing but his absolute best, Alfie wanted to invest his heart into this audition. Only after five consecutive days of makeup, padding, and tucking and several more days of post-production was the tape ready to send off to the casting team. The audition process, he says, was a whirlwind of excitement and anxiety. This project brings Arial to a place she’s never been before-- the casting couch, LOL!
You never know the outcome in auditioning for a reality TV show, Pettit hopes this will bring on an exciting new adventure. In the meantime, while he waits to hear back, Alfie will in his Palm Springs home, snuggling up to his beloved pug Petunia and catching up on the new season 10 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. You can find Arial Trampway all over social media or at her brand new website ArialTramPway.com
